Welcome to the Chidokai International Community
Who we are
The Chidokai International Community is a strictly apolitical, non-profit organization that brings together Dojos and
organizations – affiliated or independent – that practice Karatedo in the tradition of Chidokan/Chidokai in
keeping with the teachings of its founders.
Our community is not a formal federation, but a friendly network of practitioners and instructors united by a shared passion for their common roots and heritage. It is an open space and a resource for connection,
exchange and friendship, open to all Dojos, organizations and individuals that practice or that earnestly aspire to practice the specific forms of Chidokai/Chidokan Karatedo.
Guided by the principles of Shoshin (beginner’s mind), Kaizen (continuous improvement), and Tanoshimi
(the joy of practice), the Chidokai International Community brings karateka together to grow, learn, and celebrate the art
in a spirit of friendly exchange and harmony.

Our Values
Shoshin – The Beginner’s Mind
In the Chidokai International Community, we embrace Shoshin, the spirit of approaching every lesson with the openness and humility of a beginner. An empty mind is not a void, but a fertile space where learning, growth, and creativity can flourish. This attitude keeps us alive, curious, and ever ready to refine both body and spirit.
Kaizen – Continuous Improvement
We follow the path of Kaizen, the art of continuous, step-by-step improvement. Each training session is an opportunity to progress, even if only by one small movement or one deeper breath. Over time, these subtle gains accumulate into transformation, shaping not only our karate, but our character and our way of life.
Tanoshimi – The Joy of Practice
True mastery cannot be born from discipline alone. Across the Chidokai International Community, we also cultivate Tanoshimi — the joy of practice. When training is infused with passion and a light spirit, movements become fluid, harmonious, and alive. It is through Tanoshimi that karate transcends repetition and becomes art: a union of body, mind, and heart (kokoro).
Through Shoshin, Kaizen, and Tanoshimi, the path of the Chidokai International Community is not only a practice of technique, but a way of living fully, with strength, harmony, and gratitude.
